the Kree-Skrull war

The war between the Kree and Skrull is a story written by Roy Thomas. The war is a notable story because of it's enormous cast of characters and use of metaphor. It's also the introduction of the Vision and Scarlett Witch romance, which became an ongoing theme for the characters. A lot of critics consider this chapter a highlight of it's comic era and if you haven't read about it yet it's most certainly recommend it!

In this story the avengers, Captain Marvel and Rick Jones (a character on which we will come back in a other post soon!) find themselves in the middle of an intergalactic war between the Kree and the Skrulls. Earth is positioned halfway between the home galaxy's of the Kree and the Skrull. Both seek to destroy or conquer it, in order to gain tactical advantage in their war.

A series of mysterious Kree and Skrull involved events take place on earth. The Avengers underestimate the events and handle it rather sloppy. When public get's to know about the alien treads Ironman, Captain America and Thor lose face towards the people, some even insisting they quit the avengers. When Quicksilver, Scarlett Witch and Captain Marvel are abducted by the Skrulls, Captain America gets his team together and heads into space to save his friends. Captain does a great job leading several attacks on the aliens but the real savior is Rick Jones, who gains the Destiny force. This ability gives him the power to summon every Marvel hero he'd ever written about. He's able to summon a whole wave of golden age heroes (World War II Captain America, Prince Namur, ...) who aid the current heroes and help them eventually win the war. When they return to earth all is forgiven since the humans are once again reminded of the value of the Avengers.

This is a short explanation of the war. If you think this is a fun subject please do read the real deal! you won't be disappointed!
